Founded in 1985 in the heart of the Basque Country, Maison Devoucoux has been committed for over 40 years to designing excellent equipment to meet the needs of riders and their horses

FOUNDING OF THE MAISON

Founded by Jean-Michel Devoucoux in 1985, the Maison stands out for its commitment to meeting the needs of riders in three disciplines—show jumping, dressage, and cross-country. Maison would later achieve Olympic prestige. Its first workshops were established in the heart of the Basque Country, in Sare.

FIRST SADDLE

During this same period, the first Biarritz O saddle was created—the "Original." It made history for the brand and stands out for its timelessness, as it is still manufactured today.

FIRST EXHIBITION

Maison Devoucoux took part in its first exhibition in Tartas, marking the beginning of equestrian events as we know them today.

1988

1992 : FROM SARE TO BIARRITZ

After its first workshops in Sare, Maison Devoucoux moved to Biarritz, paying tribute to its iconic first saddle.

1992 : LAUNCH OF DRESSAGE SADDLES

That same year, Maison Devoucoux unveiled two new dressage saddles: the Makila and the Milady, designed to elevate the art of dressage and meet the expectations of the most demanding riders.

LAUNCH OF THE CROSS-COUNTRY SADDLE

The Devoucoux saddle collection expanded with the introduction of the Chiberta saddle, meticulously designed to enhance cross-country riding. This milestone brought the Maison’s vision to life, creating exceptional pieces crafted to support riders in all three disciplines: show jumping, dressage, and cross-country.

1995 : CREATION OF AN EXPERT SADDLERY TEAM.

Driven by a growing ambition, Maison Devoucoux strode to get even closer to riders to better meet their needs. With this vision in mind, a network of five sales representatives were established in France, providing tailored support to equestrian enthusiasts.

THE RISE OF THE MAISON

Eager to meet the needs of an ever-growing number of riders, Maison Devoucoux established an independent company, Devoucoux USA Ltd, founded by two associates of Jean-Michel Devoucoux..

BEYOND THE BORDERS.

In 1997, the network of traveling saddlery experts expanded, bringing the excellence of Maison Devoucoux beyond borders to the United Kingdom, Italy, and Belgium. Devoucoux established its international presence by offering exceptional saddles, refined accessories, and personalized support, in a continual pursuit of excellence.

1998 : AN ICONIC ACCESSORY

Born from a collaboration with Pippa Funnell, the Kolibri was created to address a specific need: to prevent the saddle from shifting backward and provide optimal stability. A true revolution in the world of eventing, the Kolibri quickly became an iconic piece of Maison Devoucoux and remains an essential item to this day.

EVOLUTION OF THE USA SUBSIDIARY

The subsidiary Devoucoux USA Ltd, founded in 1996, evolved to become Jean-Michel Devoucoux Inc, further asserting the international growth of the Maison and its commitment to the American market..

1999: DIGITALIZATION OF DEVOUCOUX

In its pursuit of excellence and innovation, Maison Devoucoux took a new step by embracing digitalization. It now offers its customers a website that brings together all of its creations.

RELOCATION TO BIDART

In an effort to provide a more comfortable working environment tailored to the growth of its teams, Maison Devoucoux took a new step by moving its workshop to Bidart, just a few steps from Biarritz, in the heart of the magnificent Basque Country. This strategic decision preserves the heritage and authenticity of the brand, staying true to its roots and the region where it was born.

2002

CONQUEST OF THE BRITISH MARKET

Maison Devoucoux extends its influence with the creation of Devoucoux Ltd., a subsidiary specifically dedicated to the British market. This initiative strengthens its international presence and meets the needs of a new clientele based in the United Kingdom.

ATHENS OLYMPIC GAMES

These Games marked a turning point for the reputation of Maison Devoucoux. Recognized for its expertise, the brand equipped many top riders in this occasion.
The French eventing team was equipped with the famous Kolibri, including Didier Courrèges, an iconic rider for the brand. He contributed to France's victory, which won the gold medal in the team event.
Among the medalists, seven riders were equipped by the brand. Pippa Funnell, a pioneer of the Maison, secured third place individually, further confirming the excellence and influence of the brand at the highest level.

2013

In 2013, the Devoucoux brand joined the LIM (Leather In Motion) group, founded by Laurent Duray. This acquisition marked a new step in the development of high-end saddlery, integrating Devoucoux into a group specialized in innovation and equestrian excellence.

2014 : VEGETABLE TANNING

After several years of research within the Maison, Devoucoux, true to its spirit of innovation,  an exceptional leather made from natural and biodegradable vegetable tannins was unveiled. This launch embodies the perfect blend of authenticity and the unparalleled quality of the brand's saddles, while also affirming a deep commitment to environmental respect.

FIRST EDITION OF THE DEVOUCOUX INDOOR DERBY

This year marked the first edition of the Devoucoux Indoor Derby at the Jumping de Bordeaux — an iconic event that sparked a lasting partnership, still going strong today to thrill you from the stands.

INTEGRATION OF DYNAMICK® TECHNOLOGY

The wooden tree is replaced by the Dynamick® tree, made from fiberglass and Kevlar, and integrated into the Chiberta Lab saddles. A Devoucoux innovation that pushes the boundaries of performance in cross-country..

2016 : THE MAKILA HARMONIE

The prestigious Makila dressage saddle range is enhanced with a new piece: the Makila Harmonie. The uniqueness and innovation of this saddle lie in its tree equipped with Dynamick technology, which, through the combination of technical materials, frees the horse's movements while allowing the saddle to return to its original shape after exertion.

THE KORRIKA LAB

In response to the growing demand from the endurance market and staying true to its commitment to meet the needs of riders in all disciplines, Maison Devoucoux unveils a new saddle specifically designed for endurance: the Korrika Lab. An innovative saddle that is the first on the market to integrate a split tree, it marks a significant breakthrough in the world of saddlery.

THE CHIBERTA ENARA

Born from the expert work carried out by the Research & Development department at Maison Devoucoux, the Chiberta Enara saddle pushes the boundaries of innovation and comfort. Its V-shaped tree, originating from the Korrika Lab and equipped with Dynamick technology, adapts to the asymmetrical movements of the horse, offering an unparalleled close contact between rider and horse.

Devoucoux reinvents itself with a new visual identity, a reworked logo, and an exceptional graphic charter. While modernizing its image, the Maison preserves its soul and roots in the Basque Country through the meticulous work of its graphic designers.

2024

THE CHIBERTA EVO AND THE BIARRITZ ENARA

Following the success of the Chiberta Enara in 2022, our range expands with two exceptional models: the Biarritz Enara, dedicated to show jumping, and the Chiberta Enara Evo, a monoflap saddle designed for cross-country. An evolution created to meet the growing demands of our riders.

Forty years of excellence, craftsmanship, and passion. To mark this occasion, Devoucoux has created a unique identity for its 40th anniversary, as well as an exclusive anniversary capsule collection, conceived as a tribute to its history.
